flights to now warning, new jersey through midday. american airlines has cancelled all of today's flights bound for jfk in new york. all major airports in new york and boston are closed with dozens of other flights to east coast cities delayed. tonight there are some nonstops to new york that could be affected. yesterday northeast storm forced more than 4700 flight cancellations, including 83 flights out of sfo. the grapevine on interstate 5 to southern california is open again this morning after being closed last night due to snow. last night drivers were escorted through in both directions. the length between los angeles and bakersfield completely reopened around 1:30 this morning. if it hadn't been a setup of bank of america branch in oakland, it might be a pile of rubble now. a san jose man plotted to blow

up the bank with a truck bomb. but as it is reported, an undercover operation foiled the potential deadly plot. >> the plan was to bomb this bank of america in oakland. it went like clock work right up until he set off the bomb with a cell phone. that's what when the fbi swooped in and arrested him. this ups driver saw the action. >> at 2:00 in the morning when i came by biand the fbi agents were all around here. >> in reality an undercover fbi agent kept close tabs on him as posing as a taliban operative. as part of his plan he first wanted to ban the san francisco federal reserve. then he decided that was too secure so he chose the open bank of america site. according to the fbi, five gallon buckets like this one filled with chemicals would have been the basic pieces of the bomb. agents say he also purchased cell phones and other items to be used in a triggering device.

the plan was to drive the bomb with its components packed aboard an s.u.v. and detonate it in a spot to bring down the entire bank of america building. it's a plot the customers were clearly shocked to here about. >> wow. seriously? >> the fbi said the man tried making contact with a taliban operative shortly after getting out of jail on an illegal firearms charge. he was arrested at his father's san jose home. according to court documents he lived in an rv that he often parked on the front driveway. his father would not let him into the home alone in order to safeguard his younger children because of his son's history of drug use and mental health issues n april, 2011, he was arrested when police respond today a disturbance here. that's when police found he had an ak-47 and a high capacity clip which is illegal in california. neighbors were surprised. >> a terrorists down the street from your house?

anybody could live next door. it happens, i guess. but it's really scary. >> we made several attempts to contact his father and other family members. unfortunately those attempts have been unsuccessful. in san jose, abc7 news. and we are learning more about matthew. his father said he served in the marine corps before being discharged for an undisclosed reason. he became an expert in weapons assembly and started a company. he reported to islam sometime before moving back to the bay area. if convicted, he face as maximum sentence of life in prison. hundreds of people came october in fairfield last night to remember a 13-year-old girl who was murdered a week ago. this morning 32-year-old anthony jones is in jail on suspicion of murder, kidnapping, rape and lewd or lascivious acts on a child. he lived blocks from where the

victim, genelle conway-allen, was last seen alive. we have more. ♪ i once was lost and now am >> hours after her -- the arrest of her killer, 300 people or more gathered here for a vigil. >> she was my best friend. >> police arrested 32-year-old anthony lamar jones for murder, kidnapping and rape of a child. >> jones was identified as a suspect early on in this case. since that time he has been under 24 hour surveillance. >> police coward his two-story home in this fairfield neighborhood. they also searched the barbershop he opened in fairfield last year. genelle was last seen a week ago. she left her foster parent's home for school. her body was found the next day. >> i have actually been out of her life about a year or so.

>> her father, josh allen, said he and genelle's mother had trouble with drugs and lost custody of genelle last year. but in spite of their obstacles, he said she kept a smile on her face. >> a great kid, a great child. very loving, affectionate. i love her with all my heart. >> i also spoke to the accused killer's mother who said she has been following this story and praying for genelle's family, only to be devastated to find out that the prime suspect is her son. reporting in fairfield, i'm allen wong, abc7 news. >>. we continue to follow developing news. the search of the former police officer accused of killing three people in southern california. that search resumes at 7:00 a.m. this picture was taken january 28th by a security hotel at a hotel in orange county. it's the most recent photo of the man that we know of. here's the latest on the search.

little wind it's pretty chilly out there. live doppler 7hd this morning showing we are clear. see the sweep on top of mount saint helena. that's our radar. around the monterey bay conditions are nice and clear. no fog to speak of. 6 miles visibility along the coast. really considerably warmer than we are in the east bay. look at concord at 33. 35 in livermore. usually we are much, much cooler here. with the end, we are looking at the numbers staying up. 46 san francisco, 38 redwood city. but it's cold in san jose at 35. later on today monterey look gorgeous for the third round of the pebble beach program. 39 right now. 33 in watsonville. just 30 in gilroy. so mostly clear and cool this morning in spots. in fact near freezing in some spots. sunny and dry over the weekend. looks like the mild weather pattern, it's going to last right into next week. we are getting close to president's day where we

certainly could use some new snow. but we are looking at the system sinking to the south and east of us. this is what brought our rain on thursday, into thursday night. now we have the big ridge of high pressure once again, allowing for a cool and drying trend. so we have the flow below, the counter clockwise flow and the clock rice flow around the high allowing for the atmosphere to certainly stay dry and the jet stream to stay well to the north of us. that allows for the dry pattern all through next week. not expecting anything in terms of precip. certainly a different story along the east coast with the current blizzard going on. but back home we have numbers in the teens in the sierra nevada right now. this afternoon 33 in lake tahoe with mid-50s big sur, upper 50s for los angeles and a cool 60 for palm springs. we will continue to increase the numbers just a couple of degrees day-by-day so that will bring much milder conditions in the week ahead. in fact we are looking well

ahead of normal by wednesday and thursday. today around the bay look for mid-50s for fan fest. san francisco 56. 60 in oakland. 57 in palo alto with mid-50s around vallejo. down by the monterey bay, gorgeous afternoon. mid-50s here. some of the cooler numbers at our coast but still plenty of sunshine. 57 in hollister. as we look ahead you will notice that not only do we stay dry and cool, but we are looking at temperatures slowly coming up day-to-day. in fact, wednesday and thursday valentine's day. mid-60s should be one of the warmer days around the bay. we have that high tide, the king tides with 6.7 feet today at 10:20. so maybe a little localized flooding with that. and the sharks are playing at 1:00. you know, looks like another great weekend if you like it dry but we certainly can use some rain. >> right, until the parking garage floods here.

reporting live in san francisco, kira klapper abc7 news. >> you can flash your press pass and maybe go right to the front of the line and bypass the whole line. >> hopefully the people in front of the line will remember me at 10:00 when the gates open. >> thanks. good strategy. >> speaking of the giants, of course, they swept their way to the world series title and now the mayor hopes to use that team spirit to get residents to sweep away garbage. in what amounted to a huge pep rally, that included lincoln high school cheerleaders, the mayor unveiled an anti-litter campaign called the giant sweep. last year they picked up almost 23,000 tons ever stuff illegal level dumped on the street. goal is to get all city residents to pitch in. >> it's easy to look away when someone throws something away. it's easy to look away. but i've been in a lot of cities and i played baseball all over the countries.

san francisco is one of the most beautiful places i have ever been in my life. >> the city will hold several neighborhood cleanup events. the first is scheduled for today in the sunset district. new this morning for a couple hundred bucks you can add your name or a message to the new 49er stadium by purchasing a commemorative brick. our media partner, the san jose mercury news, say the bricks will go on sale on march 1st. depending on the size or length of the message on the brick they will sell for 175, 325 or $375 a piece. the year-long sale campaign is expected to raise between $2.5 million and $3 million. it will be installed in time for the stadium's 2014 opening. it will also come with a replica you can keep. new this morning, president obama is urging lawmakers to pass a short term package of spending cuts and tax revenue to head off across-the-board cuts set to kick in on march 1st. in his weekly address he said

proposed stop-gap action would avoid the so-called sequester that would trigger huge automatic spending cuts. he's asking congress for a smaller set of spending cuts and tax changes as they get a better plan. >> they don't think it's good idea to put thousands of jobs arteriesing and do unnecessary harm to the economy. yet the current plan puts the cuts mainly on seniors and middle class families. they would rather and more from the vast majority of americans and put the economy at risk than close a single tax loophole that benefits the well think. >>? the republican address, a senator from alaska said the u.s. must ramp up domestic energy production, including the keystone xl pipeline. as the bay area struggles with tighter budgets, a plan is being pitched to erase the boundaries that separates cities

and counties and consolidate services. david louie explains what is behind such a sweeping proposal. >> there are 101 city necessary the nine bay area counties. it's sometimes difficult to tell when you cross a border unless you see the city limit signs. paul challenged business and civic leaders to think about dissolve the lines as the opportunity arises. >> what you have to do is catch a moment when the politician or a leader is retiring and say maybe it's time to combine our city management positions or our fire departments. >> he's a tech future rift. he spoke at the state of the valley conference suggestth bay area should think of itself as a city-state. a single entity that works cooperatively to save money and improve services. some have already recognized the benefit of consolidation. the police, fire and emts are combined and they also serve residents of monte sereno.

>> they have lots of small fire departments. l.a. county costs less per citizen and they have a fleet of nine fire helicopters. the bay area has no fire helicopters at all. the president of the san jose silicon valley chamber of commerce embraces the city-state concept. >> we really do, as a region, as a bay area region, need to figure out how we cooperate, how we consolidate operations from a public sector to really give our taxpayers more bang for the buck. >> however, elected officials and residents urge caution over accountability and control. >> as we grow, we look at how we can regionize services but maintain it between voters and policymakers. >> some decision are more conservative, some are more liberal. i think it makes the world a better lays when you have different opinions. >> the idea of creating a bay area city-state is bold, maybe even daunting but that was

florists. here's fremont florists and gifts. it has a map, i guess a location, and then i check it out for myself. it's an apartment complex. no florist here. we check another listing, fremont florist in the directory. again, no address. but there is a map. although the location doesn't look promising. restricted area, keep out. this is not the kind of sign you normally find at a local florist. we called both listings and received the same recorded announcement for florists. back on the internet we find oakland's one stop flower shop. san francisco's one-stop flower shop, and san jose's one-sop flower shop. three sites with different telephone numbers all linking back to this address in

camera. ten hours and thirty-six minutes of late today. live doppler 7hd this morning, very quiet. we are looking at very little in the way of cloud cover. it's the winds that were keeping the temperatures up in the north bay valleys but it's almost near freezing in parts of the east bay. we will definitely keep an eye on that. otherwise still nice and chilly in san jose with numbers anywhere from 7 to 8 degrees below where you were yesterday. this is a winner storm nemo is what they call it. a historic blizzard. over 38 inches in connecticut so far. boston 21 inches. and new york city 11.4 inches with the windchill anywhere from 5 above to 5 below. so they are continuing to see the snow. and this is winding down in boston, and by this evening we will look at things really settling down. so it's just a mess out there. much of the northeast. and back home we are dry. >> in fact, breezy in our higher

elevations. 39 in napa with 43 in novato. san francisco 46 for you. here are the numbers from fremont to san jose. look at concord at 33. 35 in livermore. and watsonville just at 33 this morning. good morning, gilroy. 30 for you. we are starting out pretty cold. we are looking at those winds keeping the temperatures up elsewhere this morning. 20 to 30 mile-an-hour gusts around mt. diablo this morning. sunny and dry this weekend. mild pattern into next week with a degree or two of warming each and every day. so we are in between systems with an area of low pressure pulling away to the south and east of us and to the north and west it's high pressure. and the flow between that creating the cold and dry air mass. this continues to build. as it does, it will allow for numbers to warm up right on through the middle of the week. in fact, our warmest numbers coming into play wednesday and thursday. but this morning just in the teens in the mountains. 33 later on in the northern sierra. 42, the snow is over in the central sierra.

i'm katie marzullo. we will start off with a quick first look at the weather. here's lisa argen. good morning. >> good morning. >> very little wind in our east bay valleys. it's chilliest here. warmest here downtown san francisco in the upper 40s. if you head on out we are dropping off to near freezing from concord, livermore and even along the central coast it's cold. 35 in san jose this morning. otherwise it's clear and a little milder in the north bay. this afternoon numbers will run a also bit cool but very pleasant. plenty of sunshine. 56 to about 60 in oakland and santa rosa. and the evening hours. numbers will drop off quickly. chilly, anywhere from 50 to about 40. talking about similar conditions for the end of the weekend but we are getting into mid-february. i'll let you know if we have any rain in the forecast and have your valentine's forecast a little later. katie. >> sounds lovely. happening now, a massive
